An eight-month-old baby stolen at a Pentecostal church
around Nnebisi road, Asaba, Delta State, two weeks ago, has been secretly
returned to the same place.
LeadershipNg reports that Darasimi Olaleye, the
eight-month-old baby was stolen by an unidentified woman while her mother, a
chorister, was engrossed in worship activities two Sundays ago, a situation
that sent the church congregation in disarray. Surprisingly, last Friday, under
the cover of darkness, the baby was returned to the Pentecostal church. The
baby was discovered by some church members at about 7pm last Friday with a
letter strung to his neck, apparently by the woman who had made away with him.
Speaking to
Leadership, the baby’s father, Mr. Victor Olaleye, disclosed that the baby was
discovered at the entrance of the church with a letter attached to his neck by
the woman who stole him. According to him, the letter read:
“Please, you people should forgive me, I don’t mean any
harm. I am a childless woman; a pastor of a church directed me to steal a
child, and keep it for 14 days, and that at the end of the last day, I will be
able to be pregnant and give birth to children of my own. So I acted on the
instruction that very pastor gave to me, and again, you can see that the child
is healthy because I took good care of him. I am troubled I could not keep the
child as I also learnt that the pastor of the church where I stole the baby and
the entire church members had placed a curse on me”.
Expectedly, the return of the eight- month- old baby,
however, elicited wild jubilation among church members, including the parents
of the baby, who danced freely outside the church premises praising God.
The Police’s acting Public Relations Officer in the state,
ASP Preston Roland, confirmed that the letter had been handed over to police
detectives at the A Division Asaba where the matter is being investigated.
