Former Super Eagles striker Victor Agali has called for the
return of Ikechukwu Uche to the national team.
Uche has fallen out of favour with coach Stephen Keshi since
the country’s 2013 African Cup of Nations win in South Africa.
Keshi had accused the Villareal forward of tactical
indiscipline and left him out of his Brazil 2014 World Cup squad.
The coach claimed recently that that Uche wanted to be
begged to come back to the Eagles, an allegation the 30-year-old refuted.
But former Germany-based Agali believes that Uche is needed
in the team after their performance in the Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
The former Shalke 04 player said on Brila FM on Wednesday,
“It happened to me as well during my playing days, where you have players
falling out with coaches.
“But it’s not about IK Uche and Keshi, It’s about Nigeria,
the country’s image when it comes to football.
“I just want to plead with those involved, Uche and Keshi,
to help reach an understanding because it’s it’s about restoring the image of
our country.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria defender Godfrey Oboabona was among the
goal scorers to help his Turkish Super league club Rizespor demolish
Telirdagspor 5-1 in a Turkish Cup second round game on Tuesday.
The former Sunshine stars skipper broke the deadlock when he
put Rizespor ahead in the 16th minute.
They have now booked a place in the third round of the
competition.
However, Oboabona’s club are second from bottom in the
Turkish top-flight league with two points from three matches.
Last season, they barely escaped relegation.
